Loads of Links!

The General (Buster Keaton, 1927)

What a fantastic turn-out on Sunday - it was excellent to see so many young people, and so much enthusiasm for the project on our first day. The team was really impressed with the energy of the group and the range of talents they brought - from posing as moving-talking sculptures to miming interpretations of Brokeback Mountain and other modern classics!

For those of you who couldn’t stay for our film screening, don’t despair! Many classic silent films are now available for viewing on the web. Here is a list of links, including the two films we screened on Sunday, plus some others you might find interesting:

Buster Keaton’s fantastic comedy The General (the second half of which we will screen this coming Sunday, 4th March)

Felix the Cat in Hollywood, and for the budding artists and animators amongst the group, another excellent early Felix cartoon, April Maze, can be seen here...

Finally, for those of you who’d like to see just how pioneering early filmmakers were, inventing the first special effects, you might enjoy looking at these:

In fact, this whole internet archive is well worth exploring for other films too, as they are loads of early Chaplin films and animations to inspire us on our own silent movie...

As an introduction to our artists, I’d like also to invite you to explore some of the film work produced by the team, some of whom made the news recently with our steering group!

Peter’s production company’s site, Duchy Parade Films, is found here and has links to his production video diaries on YouTube.

David’s Myspace page has a range of examples of his animation projects.

Madeline can be heard as the voice of Miss Anthrax (!!) on David’s animation Vernic.

Jo’s award-winning short School Daze can be seen here (select from left hand column).

And my film work with super 8mm and re-edited old movies can be viewed here or on YouTube.

We look forward to seeing even more of you this weekend, so don’t forget, it’s not too late to get involved! Bring your friends and your friends’ friends, and your friends’ friends’ friends!

See you there!

Ciaran
